Perspectives on the economic opportunities for the South West of Western Australia.

The South West of Western Australia is possibly the most attractive area to invest in throughout all of Australia. Rich in an array of natural resources, agriculture, viticulture and improved access to the city of Perth and beyond, the sun is shining in the South West.

By 2030, hundreds of millions of dollars of extra revenue per year could be floating into the South West economy through increased trade, exports, tourism, manufacturing and the natural growth of business. This can be achieved through improved domestic infrastructure, an upgraded airport carrying inbound and outbound domestic and overseas passengers and an expanded port open to cruise ships and naval visits. Combined with growing industries such as lithium, the booming region will experience job creation, commercial property development and a rise in new house builds resulting in an increase in overall house prices.

The key points of this special report include:

- Increased employment through the completion of the Busselton-Margaret River Airport upgrade

- Impact of the $1billion lithium plant from the Greenbushes mine

- Growth in export markets for the South West’s agricultural and food products

This report is part of a five-part series featuring economically and socially thriving regional areas in Australia. This report was prepared using a range of market research and data, and includes interviews with senior business leaders, advisers and managers in the South West regarding their attitudes on the trends, opportunities, and challenges of the region, leading up to 2030.
